According to the Leader+ communication to Member States, the purpose of the European Network on Rural Development is "to facilitate the spread of information as regards rural development policies, the exchange of experience amongst rural stakeholders, the spread of innovation and the transfer of know-how, to the advantage of the least developed the most vulnerable rural areas and with the aim of implementing common initiatives". As part of this important network, the Italian NNU is always in close contact with all the other national networks in Europe. |
| A European Observatory with a focus on rural areas has been established at the community level, and a technical unit, the "Contact Point", has been set up by the European Commission to manage the Observatory. | |
